Gov. Ikpeazu Receives Report Of The Exploratory Committee on The Establishment Of A University Of Science And Technology

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has received the report of the Exploratory Committee on the Establishment of a University of Science and Technology.

The event which took place by zoom witnessed the formal submission of the report of the Committee led by Eminent Nigerian, Professor Anya O Anya.

Governor Ikpeazu thanked the Committee members for their patriotism and sense of duty which led to the completion of their assignment within time and assured them that their report will be studied religiously and would form the basis of future steps to be taken.

The Governor stated that with the natural endowments of our people coupled with existing infrastructure like the Metallurgical Institute in Aba, there was nothing stopping us from actualizing the dream of establishing an institution that will train our people in the production of machines and the servicing of existing ones.

Earlier, while presenting the report, Committee Chairman and National Merit Award Winner, Professor Anya O Anya thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve on this important Committee and told the Governor that he has started a process that will impact positively on the future of our state and our people. He stated that great nations of the world started with ideas like this and had the political will to push them across.

He told the Governor that the committee took a holistic approach in their assignment and developed a blueprint for an institution that will take advantage of what is on ground presently and with a proposed funding structure that will be independent of government.

Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Professor Ozumba, Professor Ikechi Mgbeoji, Professor Johnny Ogunji of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Professor Uche Ikonne, Vice Chancellor of the Abia State University, some members of the Abia State Executive Council and others were part of the meeting.
